Car Update...
This post is dedicated to the ever-so-helpful Chicago police department who couldn't find my car 4 blocks away from where it was stolen.
Lucky for me, my second cousin (my mom's cousin) Timmy is the head of dispach for the Streets and Sanitation departmen, and we called him up and he checked the CPD hot-sheet (a list of all the autos stolen in the last few days) and my car never made it on. After he taught me a few new words that I can't repeat refering to the cop who took the report, and never turned it in. Then he told me to hold on, and then he hang on, and he clicked over and got on a three way call to the 17th district police department. (It's cool because he has a lot of connections from Mayor Daley on down.) So he talked to them, and I gave them my info, and they put it on the list.
That was all on friday.
Then, Saturday, I got a call at home from Timmy. He said that one of his crews (he had anyone working in a city vehicle looking for my car... tow trucks, plow trucks, water trucks, etc...) found my car at 5100 N Sawyer. I live at 5130 N Christiana. 3 blocks away. So, the water workers did a better sleuthing job than did the police...
Anyway... my dad and I went to the pound to check out my car, but it was pretty beat. The passenger window was smashed in, the stereo was torn out everything of value was gone from inside the car and the trunk, except my radar detector which was under the passenger seat. In all, my stereo, my cd's, my I-Pass, a case of oil, some tools, gloves, and a $5 gift card to Waldenbooks were missing.
I took the plates off and left. Timmy said he'd take care of the towing/storage fees. Good deal.
On Saturday, George Chipain (a friend of my dad's) was over, and we told him my story, and he said that they have a 91 VW Golf GTI that they would give me. It needs a starter, but other than that is in great physical and mechanical shape. I think it's pretty exciting.
Other than that, no big news.
Oh, yesterday, the police called to tell me that they found my car. Of course, this was the day after I already went and got all my stuff out of it.
PS my cousin's name isn't really Timmy. It was changed to protect the innocent.
So, now you know too...
